Not Your Average Wedding Shower: Redneck Love

I may be a midwest girl at heart, but I spent my high school days in central Florida. So, when I saw an old friend’s pictures of her “Redneck Love” Stock the Bar Wedding Shower I just had to share! Sure, traditional wedding showers have a time and a place. (Grandma Maude may not be down for shower games of beer pong and battle shots.) But if you’re throwing a shower mainly for the bride and groom’s friends, it’s a good idea to think outside the box. And I don’t mean afternoon tea… This shower featured so much redneck love… Guests dined on the finest pigs in a blanket and tater tots around. Little Debbie Cakes were served for dessert. Drinking games and a special mug shot photo booth provided for plenty of fun. (Don’t forget redneck props!) And, of course they encouraged guests on Instagram to use the #rednecklove tag. What an awesome, fun way to celebrate a southern couple! A great bonus to throwing a redneck themed shower- no one expects too much. Encourage guests to get into the theme by dressing the part. Peppermint DIY Round-Up!

It happens every year around this time. I head to the store for XYZ, and walk out with XYZ and 2-3 boxes of candy canes and a couple of bags of starlight mints. Why? Because it’s the holidays and they’re festive and they’re really, really cheap. Plus, if I fill our candy bowl with them instead of chocolate maybe we can avoid at least one of the five pounds the average american gains this time of year. Because let’s face it… “I just can’t stop eating these mints,” said no one ever. Last year, I decided to put all the mint candies to good use and make Christmas centerpieces out of them. This year, my super talented friend Jenny over at BOOK Event Design used them to make an awesome wreath. And that got me to thinking. What else can we do with these forever left behind candies? Make way for turkey! Hanging Centerpiece Ribbon Chandelier

Every Thanksgiving I run into the same problem. I’ve painstakingly made (or purchased) an elaborate and beautiful centerpiece. Yet, when I go to put the main attraction (ie- the plethora of fat, butter, carbs, and turkey) on the table it starts to look like Walmart on black Friday – way too crowded. In turn, I begrudgingly remove the centerpiece and resent it the entire dinner. (Thank you, Grandma, for ingraining in me feelings of shame and self-loathing when serving guests a meal without a centerpiece. The horror!) So, when I went to write about the awesome ribbon chandelier I made for this shower, it hit me. What a PERFECT solution for a crowded Thanksgiving table! Hanging Ribbon Chandelier/Centerpiece What I love most about this project is its versatility. Obviously, your ribbon can be any color, shape, size, and length. You can choose to add cardstock pieces like I did, or not. Basically, if you can affix an item to a piece of monofilament, you can use it to create a hanging centerpiece. Dyed Cupcake Liner Extravaganza

The majority of my weekend was spent making a very time-consuming decor element for an upcoming event. Dying three to four HUNDRED cupcake liners is only step one. I’m not ready to spill the beans about what we do with all these dyed cupcake holders, but trust me it’s freaking awesome. In the meantime, I want to share my experience with this crafty cupcake trend that Lauren over at Little Wren started. Lauren makes it look so easy (and beautiful). My experience was a bit more frustrating. First, I could not get my colors to come out the way I wanted. I had my heart set on purple, pink, seafoam, blue, and yellow. Based on Lauren’s experience, this shouldn’t be so hard. I KNOW that blue and red make purple. And red and water should make pink, just like Lauren says. So why did mine look like this: Eventually, I blamed the problem on crappy food coloring, took a deep breath, and decided that blue, seafoam, and yellow would be just perfect. For my project, I needed 300-400 cupcake liners. Which means I spent my entire afternoon peeling apart liners, dipping & swirling them, and covering my fingertips in dye. Oh, and
