Six Cookies One Dough

No time to bake this season? Think again.

One Dough, Six Cookies, All Smiles! I won’t be baking cookies this holiday season. Between moving into a new house, cramping hands from screwing together IKEA furniture, and not having another weekend in town until January, I feel completely justified with this decision. At least I did before I got this email from my local grocer telling me that I could make FOUR types of cookies with a single dough recipe. Then I got to thinking and came up with TWO MORE TYPES OF COOKIES you can make with this dough. That’s SIX cookies with one dough. How could I pass that up? Disclaimer: Because I’m short on time, I only tested the two cookies I came up with – Rosy Rudolphs and Reindeer Nipples. (Yes, you read that right… I said reindeer nipples.) But I can tell you without fear that these cookies are AMAZING. So amazing, that I had two for breakfast while photographing them and don’t even feel guilty about it. What am I waiting for? On to the recipes!!! Variations on a Dough Super Duper Chocolate Cookie Base Dough Makes about 40 cookies Ingredients: 10 oz. chopped semi-sweet chocolate (Tip: Save yourself some money and chopping time

Work Pranks

Bummed you’re working on a federal holiday? Try this.

Today, the nation is “observing” Veteran’s Day. Which means that (once I’ve thanked my friends and family who are serving or have served in the military,) I’m going to be really disappointed that I have to go to my part-time job. This is what happens when the first six years of your career are spent working for a municipality. Especially, when that municipality is Chicago. I still get upset when I have to work on the first Monday in March. I mean, it’s CASIMIR PULASKI DAY for goodness sake. In my head, if the mail is not being delivered, I shouldn’t have to go to work. But I digress. Since it is November, and people are busy being super thankful every morning on Facebook (seriously guys, maybe you should do that in a journal or something), I decided to take my frustration and do something positive with it. In the form of practical jokes on my coworkers. Consider yourselves warned, guys. Hey, Finance Manager – the phone’s for you! Double decker desk. For that coworker with the reeeeaaaalllllllly long torso. Sadly, I don’t have a personal picture of my favorite work prank. But that’s not going to stop me from

Watermelon Smoothie

The World’s Easiest Low-Calorie, Sugar-Free, Fruit Smoothie!

About 8 months ago I got on a major smoothie kick and never looked back. I had been reading up on the clean eating movement and was done with processed breakfast bars. I needed something quick and healthy to take on my morning commute (which at the time was a delightful 45 minute drive to a Chicago suburb). Enter the World’s Easiest Low Calorie, Sugar Free Fruit Smoothie recipe! My recipe didn’t start out this easy. First I toyed around with vegan yogurt, fresh fruit, and soy milk. Then I tried adding fresh squeezed orange juice and ice. Ultimately, I ended up with this delightful mix that guarantees me the perfect smoothie consistency without the annoying, icy chunks or a million ingredients.

Husband Appreciation Day

Husband Appreciation Day

It’s no secret that men like to feel appreciated. Relationship experts have been claiming for years that men need to feel needed and valued. And, I’m sure that’s true. But just in case, I went ahead and did some research. In my hours five minutes of research, I managed to run across this gem that eloquently tells women it’s our fault(?!?!?) men cheat. Why??? Because we just don’t do enough to show our appreciation. Duh. While I don’t agree with the finger pointing trash available on the internet, I do believe that appreciation is key to maintaining a healthy, happy relationship. Enter, Husband Appreciation Day!
