Inexpensive Wedding Gift: DIY State Art Love!

I’ll never forget the year I attended 12 weddings in five months. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE weddings. But celebrating all that love and happiness can do a number on a guest’s pocket-book. And since we’re in the thick of wedding season right now, I thought I’d help you all out. Here’s an inexpensive DIY wedding present that’s both beautiful and meaningful for the happy couple. I made this for my dear cousin who married the love of her life last December. Their story involves so many states it was hard to decide which to include. She grew up outside Chicago while he spent his childhood in a small Ohio town. When they met she was living in Kansas and he was in Nebraska. They dated long distance for awhile and got engaged. Then a new job found them moving together to Cleveland. Does your head hurt yet? Mine too. I decided to go with hometown love. Illinois and Ohio it is! Step One: Make your states. 1. Find and print an image of your selected states. 2. Carefully cut out your states. I found it was much easier to get around all the curvy lines using these tiny scissors

Reduce, Reuse, Remember the Gift Tags!

I adore holiday cards. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Plus, it’s nice to find something besides junk mail in the mailbox for a few weeks a year. Now a days, photo cards seem to be the standard. And as much as I love seeing pictures of your child/dog/cat/vacation, I really appreciate the simple beauty of a traditional holiday card. I find myself hoarding these tokens of Christmas past because they’re just too pretty to throw away. Last year, I thought ahead and packed them away with all the holiday wrapping stuff. When I pulled them out, I was reminded of how my mom always reused last years holiday cards as this year’s gift tags. It’s such a simple way to upcycle and adds a unique touch to your gifts. I used three methods to create these tags. The Old Fashioned Circle Punch – Otherwise known as tracing the rim of a glass over the picture and cutting it out. (Yes, by hand.)  The New Age Circle Punches – I wouldn’t go less than a 2″ diameter unless you are just trying to dress up a plain package with a fun dot pattern. (Hmmm, what a great idea…)  Fiskar’s Rotary Cutter –

Candy Cane Centerpiece Vases

Peppermint DIY Round-Up!

It happens every year around this time. I head to the store for XYZ, and walk out with XYZ and 2-3 boxes of candy canes and a couple of bags of starlight mints. Why? Because it’s the holidays and they’re festive and they’re really, really cheap. Plus, if I fill our candy bowl with them instead of chocolate maybe we can avoid at least one of the five pounds the average american gains this time of year. Because let’s face it… “I just can’t stop eating these mints,” said no one ever. Last year, I decided to put all the mint candies to good use and make Christmas centerpieces out of them. This year, my super talented friend Jenny over at BOOK Event Design used them to make an awesome wreath. And that got me to thinking. What else can we do with these forever left behind candies? Well here it is. Your very minty DIY round-up! Candy Cane Holiday Vases from Be Rosy This was a super easy project. After unwrapping all your mints, grab your glue gun and go to town. When the vase is entirely covered, seal it with a crystal clear acrylic spray. (I learned the hard way that

Reinbeers

Easy-Peasy, DIY Gift for MEN: Rudolph, the Red Nosed REINBEER!

It is SO hard to shop for men. Power tools, Best Buy gift certificates, dress shirts… Boooooooooooring. I was racking my brain for the right gift for my many brothers (biological, in-laws, and step-in-laws). And then it happened. Mindlessly scrolling through pinterest, I happened upon this geniusness. And all my brother gift problems were solved. Reinbeers. Believe it or not, the hardest part of making this gift is the antlers. Mainly because pipe cleaners, with their super pointy ends, super annoy me. The googly eyes and pom noses went right on with your basic Elmer’s school glue. I added a wide ribbon around the elegant six-pack sleigh and plan to tuck in little manly treasures such as lottery scratch-off tickets, fast food gift cards, and beef jerky. Voila, an out-of-the-box gift for any man in your life. Be sure to check back next week for my DIY gift for the ladies. As much as I wanted to, I held back from creating winedeers. 🙂

Fake Make Up Kit

DIY Diva Toy Make Up Kit

My niece, Abby, is a diva. She’s loud, beautiful, always the center of attention, and LOVES makeup. Abby is such a budding beauty queen that her older sister has to hide makeup from her. (Or, risk the rath of Mom when Abby turns up covered in lip gloss after a nap. True story.) So, when Abby’s second birthday came around, I knew exactly what to get her. But, man was I having a tough time finding an affordable, FAKE makeup kit. I mean, the kid is only two for goodness sake! Then it hit me. I can totally make this!
